Utpal Dutt and his disciples founded People’s Little Theatre with a view to consolidate people’s theatre in India in the year 1970. It is situated at 140/24, Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose Road, Kolkata-700 040, with a strength of 48 (forty eight) members at present.

People’s Little Theatre started its journey in theatre with the production ‘THIKANA’, written and directed by Dutt in the year 1971. In the same year PLT launched two other esteemed productions ‘TINER TALWAR’ and ‘SURYA SHIKAR’. After-years PLT has produced so many magnum opus productions which became landmarks in the history of modern Bengali and Indian theatre as well under the leadership and tutorage of Dutt.

Besides performing plays, PLT has always a distinctive role in Bengali drama as well as democratic cultural movements in the country since its inception. PLT has toured all the districts of West Bengal extensively, performed in all the major cities of India and abroad.
