In 1989, a group of young creative youths formed a forum dedicated to exploring and experimenting with theatre under the leadership of Manish Mitra. They saw theatre as a potent tool for reinterpreting social realities, voicing protests against injustices, and fostering personal and societal transformation. Their journey included studying socio-economic factors, the evolution of theatre, appreciating diverse art forms, and extensive workshops to create impactful plays of their own. Over the past twenty-seven years, Kasba Arghya has successfully produced more than forty significant plays, mostly under the direction of Manish Mitra. The group has travelled widely across the country and to various countries in Europe, Asia, and South Africa. The group is now pursuing a new philosophy under the name of Organic Theatre, a concept conceived by the artistic director, Manish Mitra.
